Reports to Hatchery Manager
Job SummaryThe Senior Hatchery Technician, in conjunction with the Hatchery Manager, is responsible for both algal culture and larval/spat production.
• Maintain strict hygiene protocols applicable to algal culture and larval rearing.• Be self-sufficient and be able to work extended hours unsupervised in both the algal and larval lab to achieve targets and goals.
• Maintain stringent stock control of consumables and equipment applicable to algal and larval production based on the Hatchery Manager’s requirements.• Assist with all hatchery production processes as instructed by the Hatchery Manager.
• Report daily to the Hatchery Manager all issues relating to algal and larval production.• Maintain an efficient data recording system.
• Follow all procedures and protocols between spawnings and operational seasons, in accordance with the Hatchery Manager’s requests.• Maintain and document strict procedural processes relating to both algal and larval culture.
Minimum of two season’s experience in a pearl oyster or mollusc hatchery.
Thorough understanding of all processes related to algal culture and pearl oyster larval production.
Current Driver’s Licence.
Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
Able to work as part of a team and independently.
Must be able to endure working in a remote location.
Must be physically fit.
Maintain high standards of OH&S when using lab chemicals and equipment.
