Job Description

Title: Marine Engine Driver
Department(s): Engineering
Reports to: Engineering Supervisor or Farm Manager/Assistant Farm Manager

 

Position can be full time, casual or contract. 

Job Summary

The primary function of this role is to assist the Engineering Supervisor in the maintenance and servicing of company mothership and associated vessels.

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Operate and maintain propulsion and auxiliary machinery on the vessel you are designated engineer of.
Maintain propulsion and auxiliary on any cleaning boats operating off your vessel (up to 5 vessels)
Notify the Engineering Supervisor of any spares and/or consumables that are required.
Provide training to new Cleaning Boat Skippers in the operation and maintenance of all equipment and machinery on their vessel in line with the Companies induction process.
Account for all tools and keep tools and spares serviceable.
Keep the engineering inventory up to date.
Adhere to the USL/NSCV code and pollution regulations (MARPOL Act).
Adhere to W.A. Worksafe legislation.
Monitor fuel levels in all tanks and give notice of bunker requirements at least 1 week before the fuel is needed.
Inform the Engineering supervisor of any contractors required as soon as the need arises.

Liaise with the engineer on any of the other mother ships that may be on site before requesting spares or tools from town.
Keep the master of the vessel and the farm manager informed about any maintenance issues that may occur during the course of the neap that may affect pearling operations i.e. breakdowns i.e.: estimated repair times etc.
Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times.
Maintain a high level of safety awareness at all times in relation to yourself and others.
Keep engineering records up to date

 

Minimum Requirements

Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 ticket.
Current Senior First Aid
Up to 2 years experience in the operation and maintenance of marine propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
Restricted Coxswains or higher
C Class Drivers licence
Have or be able to obtain a Current Police Clearance (less than 3 months old)

Abilities Required

Must be physically fit
Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team
Be willing to work a 20 on/10 off roster, day tripping or shore based as required
Willingness and ability to work on a large variety of vessels, equipment and associated equipment.
Ability to obtain an MSIC card and Port of Broome induction card.
Ability to maintain the validity of qualifications as required under the USL code, NSCV code and W.A. state maritime legislation.
A fair level of computer skills.
