Job Description

Title: Pearl Farm Diver
Department: Pearl Farm (various locations)
Reports to: Dive Supervisor

Job Summary

The primary function of this role is to conduct farm diving, shell husbandry, farm husbandry and any maintenance duties as outlined below.


  • As the skipper of a vessel, the safety and welfare of all crew aboard your vessel is paramount. Should weather conditions deteriorate throughout the day, you will be required to notify your superior and convey the situation.
  • To place in high regard, recognised boat handling with safety practices.
  • Complete incident / accident / near miss reporting as per company policy.


  • Adhere to and follow start-up/shut down procedures.
  • Spend time each day on vessel maintenance as outlined in SOP including greasing moving components.
  • Keep tools in a clean and orderly working condition in the boat tool box.
  • Keep dive maintenance tools in a clean and orderly working condition.
  • Wash down decks and equipment at the end of each working day on cleaning boat and dinghy.
  • Develop a familiar understanding of the fuel, water, hydraulic, electrical and bilge systems.
  • Report maintenance issues and faults to the Dive Supervisor.
  • Vessel log book to be completed daily.
  • Familiarize yourself with dive equipment and carry out routine equipment checks using the logs provided as per company policy

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Maintenance of all anchor lines and boat moorings
  • Repairing any broken or fouled equipment
  • Seafloor turning of pearl shell
  • Recovery of lost product or equipment by various search methods
  • Dumping and elevation of shell
  • Gridding and drilling new surface lines
  • Cleaning and inspecting hulls/intakes of mother vessels
  • Deckhand duties as required
  • Maintenance and wash down of dive tenders as per daily and neap schedules

Summary of Additional Job Functions

  • Assist with shell cleaning and husbandry duties as requested by the Assistant Farm Manager and/or Farm Manager
  • Assist with the processing of by-product during annual operations and harvest activities
  • Be required to assist with the wild fishing (drifting) activities when required by the Company
  • Maintain strict emphasis on diving to the recognised Industry Dive Tables and OH&S policies.
  • Ensure the safe handling of all vessels you are using and/or are responsible for


Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 18 yrs of age
  • 1 year as a commercial deckhand or occupational diver
  • Rescue Diver Accreditation
  • Current Dive Medical AS/NZS 2299.1:2007 done by PPA approved doctor that includes long bone & chest x-rays
  • Coxswains Grade 1 or 2
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Current Police Clearance



  • Pearl Producers Association Certificate (PPA)
  • Pearl Divers Licence (Department of Fisheries WA)
  • Coxswains grade 1
  • Oxygen Providers certification
  • Previous Pearl or Teripang diving experience

Abilities Required

  • Must be a physically and mentally fit
  • Basic rope skills
  • High standard of vessel handling capabilities
  • Ability to obtain an MSIC & POB card (federal police clearance required)
  • Good organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
