Job Summary

The primary function of this role is to provide nutritionally balanced meals to all boat crew, to run an efficient and clean galley/kitchen, provide training and oversee the role of the kitchenhand and to ensure ordering of all supplies is kept to the standard and cost effectiveness as required by the Company.

Summary of Essential Job Functions


  • Apportion and serve food to crew members of up to 34 whilst avoiding excessive waste
  • Clean, cut, and cook meat, fish and poultry
  • Cook foodstuffs according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, and portions to be served
  • Oversee menu plans and ensure that are varied, nutritionally balanced and appetising for all vessels


  • Recording inventory of supplies and ability to order stores pertaining to the next trips menu plan
  • Being able to wash dishes and change laundry if kitchenhand is busy
  • Working to a time frame and being flexible when required
  • Deckhand duties when required


  • Training new kitchenhands/domestics and overseeing their duties
  • Assisting HR Manager in interviewing of new kitchenhands and cooks and performance appraisals, if required


  • Maintain a clean and hygienic galley according to industry standards
  • Rotate fresh & frozen stores, keeping fridges and freezers clean and tidy at all times


  • Monitor and oversee menus and spending in order to ensure that meals are prepared to a budget on the vessel/farm
  • Be aware and work with company budgets and be involved in meetings as and when required

Minimum Requirements

  1. Evidence of experience in a cooking environment (Minimum 1 year)
  2. Statement of Attainment in Follow Workplace Hygiene Procedures
  3. Basic computer skills (Word and Excel)
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  5. Experience with budgets (desirable)
  6. High level of personal presentation
  7. Current Police Clearance

Abilities Required

  1. Must be physically fit
  2. Ability to work in a marine environment
